So this post is a little (or way) late, but I promised my friend and Alpha Chi Omega sister that I would write a blog post to share this monumental day in her life. Thank you for being patient!
It all began when Rich, her then-boyfriend, contacted me about wanting to book a couple session because Emily had mentioned that she really wanted one. Of course it came out that this was more than just a regular session and I. Was. So. Pumped. Emily would be in town for her birthday weekend and Rich was getting all of us girls together to celebrate her. The weekend would end with this special surprise and I just knew Emily would be beside herself with happiness.
Rich and I met up to explore some site options. After wandering on the beach and through the gardens at The Blockade Runner hotel, located in Wrightsville Beach, NC, he chose the perfect place and practiced in the very spot he would soon to ask Emily to be his wife. So sweet. On the day of, I arrived to the hotel to get set up with my friend/Alpha Chi sister, Kinsey (who was so excited to watch her first Dakota Hersey Photography proposal!!). We sat on the patio, ordered some drinks (thank you, Rich!), and anxiously waited. The plan was for them to go to a nice dinner, but first, he would take her out to the hotel backyard and pop the question.
Rich made reservations for 30 minutes after the hotel shuttle could pick them up (how ironic (; ) so they wandered out into the gardens to look at the ocean while they waited for the next one to come around. They talked and laughed, then Rich got down on one knee. Emily said yes!!! After taking it all in, Rich pointed out that I was hiding on the patio and Emily was shocked…my favorite part might I add, hehe. A generous woman at the bar bought the newly engaged couple a bottle of champagne and they spent the rest of the time before dinner taking photos, calling loved ones to announce the news, and discussing possible wedding plans.
It was a wonderful evening and I was so happy to be a part of it. Rich, you are a gentleman and it is no wonder why Emily loves you so much. Emily, I am so happy for you!! This is the day we’ve always wished for and I’m honored to be able to preserve it forever.
Emily and Rich, thank you for allowing me to capture the beginning of your story! Rich, all of that stress and wandering secretly on the beach to find the perfect spot was worth it!! Congratulations to the both of you and may you live happily ever after. Love you!
xo, Dakota
