Chandler and I were standing under the shadow of a tree next to the golf course when Payton stepped out of her car. Her mom and sister had dropped her off but pulled away for them to have their first moment together in total privacy. Payton walked up behind Chandler and asked him to turn around and it was SO sweet. Tears instantly.
Rather than read their vows publicly, they chose to write letters to each other, similarly to the early days when they first liked each other and that was the only form of communication. It was simple and sweet, and most of all, so thoughtful. Those quiet, powerful moments on your wedding day are the ones you’ll remember forever, especially when you aren’t seeing eye to eye in the future.
I remember when Payton texted me telling me she had some big news and wanted me involved…I had no idea it would be this!!! I was originally booked for Payton and Chandler’s wedding on October 23, 2021 so when she let me know that they didn’t want to wait until then and were planning an intimate, family-only, elopement-style wedding on the land near her dad’s house, I was a little shocked (so many people were pushing things off, not moving them up!) but even more excited for them!! They are still planning on having their “big” wedding celebration in 2021, but they made their marriage official on October 23, 2020 –– I LOVE that they were able to keep their same date and will be celebrating their one year anniversary with all of their closest people this year!
We started off in the morning getting ready at Payton’s dad’s home. Both Payton and Chandler’s moms put on the final touches on their babies and gave the biggest hugs as we prepared for the private ceremony. After their first look, newly-wed gifts, and a few portraits, we all gathered under a tree for them to officially tie the knot.
Many people would describe 2020 as a year where things didn’t go as planned (and I would definitely agree with that!!!) but I also think it was a year where we focused on the things that truly mattered and just figured out the rest later. I love that I have been able to be there for Payton and Chandler during so many big moments and I can’t wait for their party later this year!!!
Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Matthews!!!!
